March 2026 - Beyond the Comfort Zone
At Doulos we’ve found that some lessons can be taught in a classroom but others can only really be learned in the great outdoors. Enter Outdoor Education! Outdoor Education gives our students the chance to step into real adventures and try things they simply cannot do at a classroom desk. Through our trips led by teachers and parents, students connect with the Lord in nature, discover what they are capable of, see their learning in the classroom come alive, and grow closer as a class.
I can do more than I thought…
“On my five day trip to Pico Duarte I realized that my body is capable of way more than I thought. I really thought I was going to give up, but I pushed through and made it to the top!”
— a 9th grader
Climbing Pico Duarte (the highest peak in Carribbean), or seeing the ocean for the first time, or spending their first ever night away from home pushes students beyond what feels comfortable. In these moments, they begin to realize they are capable of more than they imagined.
The classroom comes alive!
“On our camping trip we talked about erosion and how water can change the land. It was way more fun than learning about it in the classroom because we could actually see it happening while we were hiking.”
— a 4th grader
Lessons move from abstract ideas to real experiences. Instead of just hearing about erosion, ecosystems, and trash in the ocean, students see and explore them firsthand, making these lessons far more meaningful and lasting.
Experiencing the Lord in Creation…
“Outdoor Education trips are a gift. I remember picking coffee beans, having conversations under the shade of trees, laughing by the river, and doing a devotional under the stars by our campfire.”
— a 12th grader
Time outdoors away from technology creates space to slow down and notice God’s creation. Through devotions, reflection, and shared moments, students are reminded of His presence and grow in their understanding of Him.
Discovering deeper friendships…
“Our class bonded so much on our trip. I remember a wonderful conversation I had with a classmate that needed me, and it reminded me how God puts us in people’s path for a reason.”
— a 12th grader
What’s better than spending time in nature with a group of friends! The chance to cook meals, hike together, and share new experiences helps builds strong relationships. Students learn to encourage one another, serve each other, and function as a little family.
As you can see, our Outdoor Education trips are fueled by discovery, and that’s a key part of what we’re about here at Doulos Discovery School!
Independence Day
Doulos celebrated the DR’s Independence Day with an incredible program put on by our students! There’s something so special about coming together as a community to celebrate this wonderful country we call home.
ACSI Day of Prayer
We joined with hundreds of other schools in prayer on ACSI’s National Day of Prayer. It was a wonderful gift to see both staff and students sharing their prayer requests, praises, and blessings they were grateful for!
First Steps!
This amazing team from Prince of Peace Church in Minnesota worked hard to build a proper living space for someone to live in and keep an eye on the future property. First steps towards the hope and dream of our future Doulos campus!
Doulos Derby
The whole world celebrated the World Baseball Classic this month and we joined in the excitement with our very own home run derby! Students and staff had a blast bringing the energy, swinging for the fences, and cheering each other on.
Please join us in praying for...
🙏 Spiritual Emphasis Week - We're currently in the middle of Spiritual Emphasis Week here at Doulos. Please pray for open hearts as our speaker shares the message of Jesus with the students. Please also pray that students who haven't yet invited Jesus into their lives do so this week.
4️⃣ The 4th Quarter - We've just begun our final quarter for the school year so please join us in praying for a wonderful end of the year and that we would all finish well.
📝 ACSI - Over the next year we will be fine-tuning and preparing for our re-accreditation with the Association of Christian School International (ACSI). This is an opportunity for us to continue to grow and develop as a school but requires lots of time and effort. Please pray for us as we begin to prepare for that in spring 2026.
🤝 Local Staff Hires - We have a handful of open positions for local staff and we'd love for you to join us in praying for amazing new local additions to the Doulos staff. Pray specifically for someone to supervise our Spanish and Sociales teachers this next school year and also for a local Spiritual Life Director.
