January 2026 - Amy’s Story

For me, Doulos has never been just a school—it’s been home. By the December after I graduated from Doulos, I was back on campus as a staff member. What I initially thought would be temporary turned into a calling that I've now lived out for the past five years.

When I first started serving at Doulos, it was as a kindergarten assistant (something I never imagined myself doing!). I used to say I didn’t want to be a teacher but somewhere along the way, God changed my heart. I learned to love the work, the kids, and the responsibility that comes with shaping young lives.

When I consider my time as a student, it’s the relationships that stand out most. One moment in particular still stays with me. In high school, chemistry was not my thing. Right before a test, my science teacher, Ms. Pfeifer, stopped us and said, “Do your best work, and remember that your grade does not define your worth.” It was such a simple sentence, but it changed how I saw myself. For the first time, I understood that my value wasn’t tied to performance. That truth stuck and it still impacts how I teach today. My students are not defined by their performance, but by the fact that they are known, valued, loved, and created by God.

“My students are not defined by their performance, but by the fact that they are known, valued, loved, and created by God.”

Now, as the kindergarten guide teacher, I see Doulos’ mission differently. What once felt like words to memorize is now a daily responsibility. From the way I speak, to how I show patience, to how I model faith, I’m helping shape how my students see the world and their place in it. I’ve learned that you can’t teach what you don’t live, so my own relationship with Jesus has become central to how I pour into my students.

I am who I am today because of seeds planted at Doulos years ago. And now, I get to be part of planting those same seeds in the next generation!
